About Swarmandal
Swarmandal is an Indian Harp used as the drone to accompany the vocalists. It is a traditional instrument and is used in many rituals. Swarmandal is mostly used by Khayal singers who strike the open strings with their fingers especially when they want to fill short intervals. There is no hard and fast rule for the size and number of strings. The musician may use any number of strings from 21 to 36 depending upon the raga she is playing.
