Sarangi is a bowed instrument with a short neck. It is considered to be originated from Rajasthan. It has a unique feature to generate sounds same as humans and some vocal ornaments. Sarangi means something that has various different colours. So Sarangi can be viewed as an instrument that can be used to play almost all styles and that too with an amazing sound. Sarangi looks like a box and it is carved out from wood, usually tun wood.
The three main parts of Sarangi are: pet(stomach), chhati(chest), magaz(brain). All three parts are hollow from inside. It also contains a bridge, 3 main gut strings and 7 sympathetic metal strings. The main strings are bowed with the help of horse-hair bow.
Sarangi we are providing here is a Hand Made Guldasta Sarangi. It has been crafted out from Tun wood and strings are made from brass and guts. Its color resembles that of natural wood and it has simple inlay work on the body as shown in the photos. A bow is also included. Rosin, a special paste made from the tree gum, is also included along with a sturdy storage case.
