ABOUT ELECTRIC SITAR WITH MKS TUNING - LATEST STUDIO EDITION - AAH MODEL
An electric sitar is a kind of Electric guitar designed to mimic the sound of the traditional Indian instrument, Sitar.
This Electric Sitar has 7 Main Strings, 13 Sympathetic strings and a standard 1/4 inch jack slot. It has a volume & tone controls in the front. It produces great electric sitar sound for any fusion band. Easier to transport to gigs than a traditional sitar. The sympathetic strings are tuned with traditional sitar pegs whereas main strings are tuned with guitar style geared tuning pegs for ease of tuning.
Electric Sitar sounds almost like a traditional acoustic sitar. In fact it can be played without the amp as well. However, for live performance and using in recording, this sitar is fitted with a piezo pickup that is also used in acoustic guitars. The piezo pickup captures all the acoustic sounds, especially the delicate and unique sound of sympathetic strings.
Electric Sitar is about 42 inches in length, making is ideal for carrying it around. This model also comes with a special gig bag.
Each and every part of this Electric Sitar is made with hand. Firstly, the toomba or the main body, is delicately carved out of a single piece of cedar wood. A piezo pickup is fitted before covering with a closed soundboard. On top of this soundboard are the hand crafted bridges made out of bone - the big bridge for the 7 main strings and the small bridge for the 13 sympathetic string. The main strings are tuned with guitar style tuning pegs and the sympathetic strings are tuned with the traditional sitar tuning pegs. The body & the neck are outlined covered with tasteful inlay work made with celluloid and floral carving on the wood - this is a traditional style decoration all done with hand. Finally the sitar is stringed and polished to bring out the beauty of the wood and finally finished with 4 coats of laquer.
The strings are set and tuned (jawari) by the reowned sitar maker of Calcutta - Manoj Kumar Sardar.
Apart from Electric Sitar, the package includes mizrabs, extra set of strings, padded gig bag and an amp cable.

TUNING
We have professionally setup the Electric Sitar with strings of specific gauges and materials so that the below given traditional tuning is achieved. Please note that your Sitar may loose tuning while in transit to you or if left unused for some time. Here is some help to start tuning your sitar. We are trying to tune the sitar in the traditional Kharaj Pancham - Ravi Shankar style, in the key of C. Please have a chromatic tuner handy.
Tuning the 7 Main Strings
We start from the main string most further away from the tuning pegs, so if the sitar's string side is facing you, the 1st string would be the right most string.
1st String - Ma - F (An octave below Middle-C)
2nd String - Sa - C (An octave below Middle-C, below the F of 1st string)
3rd String - Pa - G (Below the C of 2nd string)
4th String - Sa - C(Two octaves below Middle-C, below the G of 3rd String
5th String - Pa - G (one octave above the 3rd string, above the F of the 1st String)
6th String - Sa - C (Middle C, above the G of 5th String
7th String - Sa -C (one octave above Middle C, above the C of 6th String)
Tuning the 13 Sympathetic Strings
Normally we tune the sympathetic strings strings to the same scale of the music or raga that you are playing. If you are a beginner, don't bother much about tuning these strings.
